We see people around us helping each other in different ways, but no one can match veterans' sacrifices and hardships to support others. We must support our veterans not because they have served us but because it becomes our social responsibility to help people around us. It is not a way to return a favor but a feeling of gratitude and empathy towards them for complementing their undying efforts.
WAYS TO SUPPORT INJURED MILITARY VETERANS
Considering the physical, psychological, and social consequences of the multiple commitments of Defense personnel in armed peacekeeping or humanitarian operations, the legislator adopted a statute recognizing these persons. They receive veteran status after retiring from the service. If the processes which give the right to this status are defined, it is not the same for the social measures which must accompany it and which to date have never been adopted. Here are ways to
support our veterans to avoid them waiting to fulfill their needs or desires.
SUPPORT OUR VETERANS BY EXTENDING HELP TO THEIR FAMILIES
There are ways in which parents in the military and their spouses can help their children cope even when one parent is absent for long periods and perhaps in danger. The most important tip, although it is not always easy: keep the lines of communication open.
HELPING CHILDREN COPE WITH DEPLOYMENT
You, as a civilian or military spouse, might be wondering about some of the things you can do to make sure your children face deployment as healthy as possible, and there are some things you can do. One essential thing is to keep the lines of communication open. It is always important that children feel that they have someone they can go to and talk about their concerns. It is important to parents as well stay-at-home parents and parents who are deployed. We know from research that perceptions of social support when deployed affect how easily you can readjust to parenting when you return. So if you feel connected and supported by a community of people willing to support our veterans, you are blessed.
It can be difficult in today's conflicts because many of our military members are from the National Guard and reservists. They are not on the ground with built-in social support but are spread throughout the community. So sometimes, we have to tell the military to make a special effort. We want to help provide a community to be connected even though geographically, they can be isolated.
There are great resources out there to support our veterans. One of them, for example, is the Veterans Vacation Trust. That is a resource where children can visit places, with a very friendly language that describes some of the difficulties that children face. They can have a fantastic vacation with their families to get over if something very stressful in their lives.
