Self-love
is about having a strong connection with yourself. It is a relationship that
has kindness, compassion, patience, and tolerance. It is all about giving
yourself grace and forgiveness when you make mistakes. Accepting praise from
people feels good, but what’s better than receiving praise and love from
yourself. Self-love can be encouraged at home and in the classroom. As a
teacher, you can teach your students to seek affirmations from within them
instead of looking for affirmations from the outside world.
Here
are 5 ways to teach self-love in the classroom.
Make them feel important
Whenever
children come to you with problems, no matter how small or insignificant, make
sure you put everything aside and give them the attention they require. A few
minutes of undivided attention will positively impact your children.
When
your students feel loved by their class teacher, they look up to them for every
little thing that makes them uncomfortable. Tell them that you love them and
care about them so that they begin to believe it.
Provide them with enriching
experiences.
When
you boost their confidence and provide them with enriching experiences, you
will help them develop self-love. Enriching experiences like encouraging them
to enjoy the piano class or tap their confidence to take the dance class will
allow opportunities to stretch beyond their capabilities.
With
the newborn confidence, they will not just realize that there is little to be
afraid of, but they will also make the most of these experiences.
Highlight their proud moments
Highlighting
their proud moments is a perfect way to show that you are proud of them, and
they did a great job. Recognizing their efforts can make the whole thing even
more meaningful for the child. Therefore, give them the high fives they
deserve!
Praise your kids.
Make
sure that your students overhear you praising them in front of others. Praising
their results is not enough. It is essential to highlight their efforts as well.
Praising your kids will nurture their confidence and provide a sense of
self-worth.
Therefore,
a few words of praise and encouragement will boost good feelings and increase
motivation because praising is a vital part of fostering their confidence.
Self-love journal activity
You
can encourage your kids to maintain a self-love journal by encouraging them to
paste sticky notes along with writing prompts. This will allow them to reflect
on while writing affirmations. It is a great place to start developing their
practice of self-love.
As
a teacher, you can teach your students to accept themselves at a very young
age. You can also play a significant role in helping them prevent the
negativities from becoming a part of their belief system.
