On May 11th, The Detroit Children's Choir will host its first live concert since the advent of the global pandemic!

Detroit Children's Choir is an organization that focuses on providing quality education and choral music opportunities to students in underserved Detroit communities.

The Detroit Children's Choir (DCC) is hosting its annual Spring concert, titled "How Can I From Singing?" The DCC will host this performance to recapture or surpass the pre-pandemic glory of a live choral performance experience. Together, students from (6) Detroit Public Schools and its Saturday Civic Choir, representing children from the Tri-county area, will raise their voices in song.

Several professional Detroit artists will join the DCC as guest performers, including renowned Jazz & R&B vocalist Gwen Foxx, recording artist and support artist Beth Griffith-Manley, and Detroit Rapper- Lyricist Curtis Bates. Accompanied by a live band, approximately 200 students will combine voices of hope and resilience, showcasing their musicianship, vocal training, and aural skills developed throughout the year.

This free concert will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at 7:00 PM. at the Basilica of Sainte Ann de Detroit, a beautiful, historical church located in southwest Detroit at 1000 St. Anne St., Detroit, MI 48216. This church is the 2nd oldest, continuously operating Roman Catholic parish in the U.S., founded July 26, 1701. The current church was built in 1886. Tours of this historic church are available before the concert, starting at 5:30 PM. For those who cannot attend in person, the concert will also be streamed live on the Detroit Children’s Choir’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The performance will highlight the benefits of teamwork, cooperation, and creativity as students create beautiful music presenting a wide range of genres. The music keeps the spirit of hope alive in these children as the pandemic winds down.

The Spring concert is open to all community members, students' families, and supporters! Please register for this event at Eventbrite-Detroit Children's Choir Spring Concert 2022

ABOUT THE DETROIT CHILDREN'S CHOIR

Founded in 2006, The Detroit Children's Choir is the brainchild of retired music teacher and choral music director Carol Shoch. Carol identified a need for children in underserved Detroit communities to have opportunities to access quality choral music education. Many schools, at that time, had cut music and arts education from their curriculum. Since then, the DCC has leveraged the power and discipline of its choral singing programs to provide choral music education to over 4500 children in southeast Michigan communities. Its programming offers a vibrant musical outlet that encourages collaboration and creativity, assists youth in their personal development, and creates a path toward understanding and better connection with others. Exposure to musical training and the arts for children in these communities can be life-changing as they learn skills that will serve them well into adulthood!

The DCC is a non-profit organization relying on the support provided by the community, donors, corporations, and foundations to fulfill its mission. To learn more, visit www.detroitchildrenschoir.org or contact us at info@detroitchildrenschoir.org
